Description from amazon.com:

Miss Lydia Charingford is always cheerful, and never more so than at Christmas time. But no matter how hard she smiles, she can’t forget the youthful mistake that could have ruined her reputation. Even though the worst of her indiscretion was kept secret, one other person knows the truth of those dark days: the sarcastic Doctor Jonas Grantham. She wants nothing to do with him…or the butterflies that take flight in her stomach every time he looks her way.

Jonas Grantham has a secret, too: He’s been in love with Lydia for more than a year. This winter, he’s determined to conquer her dislike and win her for his own. It all starts with a wager and a kiss…

A Kiss for Midwinter is a novella (38,000 words) in the Brothers Sinister series. It follows The Duchess War. Each book stands on its own, but those who prefer to read in order might want to read that book first.

It is just too soon to stop reading wonderful Holiday Romances. You are gonna love this one.

Since I read about Lydia in The Duchess Wars  I was anxious to see if her sadness could be overcome by a romance.  Of course, Courtney Milan gave me just what I was looking for.  I already knew Lydia from the fore-mentioned book but even if I had not, there is enough background given in order to thoroughly enjoy this novella.  I felt a deep sympathy for Lydia and Jonas.  They each had difficult circumstances to deal with and to overcome.  Milan’s writing is excellent.  She frames the story arc in a very clever way through Jonas’ dialog with Lydia. The setting is Christmas and a Christmas tree plays a role in the story.  I only wish this had been a full length novel. This is a terrific addition to The Brothers Sinister Series.

  1. I can’t wait to start the Duchess Wars series. Reading Unraveled at the moment, the last of CM’s Turner series. Every CM book is awesome!

I’m about 30% into TDW. I got this SS as soon as I saw it out. I figured I’d want to read the next bit from Milan. She is such a great HR author. Thomas was a let down this year for me so a lot was riding on TDW. So far…I like.

  3. Whew! I thought you were going to say that you didn’t like The Duchess Wars. :-) Do finish TDW before this one as it sets it up a bit. Did you read The Governess Affair which is the prequel to TDW? I liked that one too.

I did read it and really liked it. I do wish that one was a full length book but Milan can really do a short story well. Have you read any of the new Thomas’ titles? I didn’t see you review them but maybe you gave them a try :) . They really were not in the same class as her previous books IMO (which are among my fav HRs ever).
