Title: Wicked Games

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Author: Jill Myles

Source: Free from Kindle

Rating: 4

Sexy Rating: 5, explicit

Description from

Abby Lewis never pictured herself on the survival game show, Endurance Island. She’s just not the ‘survival’ type. But when her boss offers her a spot on the show and the opportunity of a lifetime, she packs her bags and heads to the tropics to be a contestant.

Once in the game, it’s clear that Abby’s in over her head. The game itself is full of competitive, aggressive people, and no one’s more aggressive than sexy, delicious – and arrogant – Dean Woodall. Sure he’s clever, strong, good at challenges, and has a body that makes her mouth water. He also hates Abby just as much as she hates him. That’s fine with Abby; she’ll just ignore the jerk.

But the rules of Endurance Island are working against them. Abby and Dean are teamed up – alone – on the beach. It’s either work together, or go home. Stuck with no one else’s company but their own, they learn they do make a good team after all.

And that with just a little bit of kindling, the flames of hate can quickly turn to flames of passion. This book features enemies, lovers, enemies who become lovers, and lots and lots of tropical heat…

It is time to confess to being an absolute slavering idiot over Kindle free books.  I try to discriminate but more often than not I end up reading 20 pages and throwing the novel into a collection on my Kindle designated “DNF” (Did Not Finish).  That was not the case with this book.  I stayed up all night to finish it.

What drew me to the book in the first place was that I am also a “Survivor” TV junky.  At my house we have Survivor Night where my daughter and her family come over for dinner  to root-on or boo our favorites on the show.  So, I thought the premise would interest me on the Jill Myles book.

This is my first Myles book and she can write a good steamy story.  Even if I sometimes thought our hero a bit more mature than our heroine, I loved them both and was cheering them on through each elimination challenge.  And when they won the big reward well it was only 2am so I could read a little longer.

I recommend this book for anyone who likes the TV show.  It is not a very long book, only 260 pages, so it is a fast fluffy read.  Romance on an island complete with bug bites and hot sex.

Bad Boys in Novels

What makes us love Bad Boys in Historical Romance novels or any Romance novel?  Well here is my totally biased take on the subject:

Confidence with a capital “C”

The thing is, bad boys are uber confident, they know what they want and tell it to their women truthfully. They are totally “take charge” and rarely, if ever, seek approval for their actions. That’s an attractive trait.

Brawn and Brains, yummy!

Bad Boys are never cowardly in any situation.  They never run from a confrontation. They have superior strength and intelligence.

Absolutely Hunky

Bad Boys in novels are always, always drool worthy.  Thank you authors!!  Unless they are the evil reincarnations of Voldemort, but then I’m not talking about them.

Thrill Seekers

There is never a dull moment with a Bad Boy.  There is always adventure and passion or the promise of passion.  They infuse us with the feeling of being adventurous even if our lives are rather 9 to 5.

Consummate Lovers, oh yeah!

Those Bad Boys know all the techniques for seduction and how to put them to good use.

Bad Boys can make us “Bad Girls” (yes they can)

Those of us who read romance novels, like the idea that we can fantasize about those bad boys and maybe fantasize about being a bad girl, then we can go back to being the “good” women we are day to day.  Those novels can also spice up that “good” woman to act in adventurous ways.  Take note men.

Here is a video that shows us some very bad boys from those Historical Romance novels.  If you missed some of these movies you should really give yourself a treat and check them out of the library:

Mansfeild Park
Sense & Sensibility (1995 & 2008)
Northanger Abbey
Pride and Prejudice (1995 & 2005)
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Becoming Jane
The Inheritance

Cloud-Accelerated Web Browser – “Amazon Silk”

The Kindle Fire web browser Amazon Silk introduces a radical new paradigm – a “split browser” architecture that accelerates the power of the mobile device hardware by using the computing speed and power of the Amazon Web Services Cloud. The Silk browser software resides both on Kindle Fire and on the massive server fleet that comprises the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). With each page request, Silk dynamically determines a division of labor between the mobile hardware and Amazon EC2 (i.e. which browser sub-components run where) that takes into consideration factors like network conditions, page complexity, and cached content. The result is a faster web browsing experience, and it’s available exclusively on Kindle Fire. Additional technical details are available in the Amazon Silk press release, released today at To see a video about Amazon Silk go to

Simple and Easy-To-Use

Amazon designed the Kindle Fire user interface from the ground up to make it easier than ever to purchase, manage, and enjoy your digital content. Just like with Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fire comes automatically pre-registered to your account so you can immediately start enjoying your digital content purchased from Amazon or shop for new content. All of your digital content is instantly available to enjoy and manage with a simple, consistent experience across all content types.

Free Cloud Storage

Just like Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fire offers free storage for all your Amazon digital content in the Amazon Cloud. Amazon digital content is automatically backed up for free in the Amazon Cloud’s Worry-Free Archive where it’s available for re-downloading anytime.

Amazon Whispersync Now for Movies & TV Too

Just like Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fire uses Amazon’s popular Whispersync technology to automatically synchronize your Kindle library, last page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights across the widest range of devices and platforms. With the introduction of Kindle Fire, Amazon is expanding this technology to include video. Start streaming a movie on your Kindle Fire, and when you get home, you can resume streaming right where you left off on your TVavoid the frustration of needing to find your spot.

Easy to Hold in One Hand

Just like Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fire was designed to disappear so you can lose yourself in the content. Weighing in at just 14.6 ounces, Kindle Fire is small and light enough to hold in just one hand and carry everywhere you go. The lightweight, compact design makes Kindle Fire perfect for web browsing, playing games, reading and shopping on-the-go.

Brilliant Color Touchscreen

Content comes alive in rich color on a 7-inch full color LCD touchscreen that delivers 16 million colors in high resolution and 169 pixels per inch. Kindle Fire uses IPS (in-plane switching) technology – similar technology as used on the iPad, for an extra-wide viewing angle – perfect for sharing your screen with others. In addition, the Kindle Fire display is chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, which means it is incredibly durable and will stand up to accidental bumps and scrapes.

Fast, Powerful Dual-Core Processor

Kindle Fire features a state-of-the-art dual-core processor for fast, powerful performance. Stream music while browsing the web or read books while downloading videos.

Free Month of Amazon Prime

Sexy Man Tuesday- Romance Novel Cover Models

What gets you to buy a paperback?  According to the publishing industry it is definitely the picture on the cover.  They should know since they do all kinds of studies of these things.  I always contend that it is the back cover blurb that sways me.  But if the cover isn’t attractive or maybe offensive then I may pass the book up, at least on my first discovery.  Here are a few of the sexy men who the publishing industry rely on to sell books.  I think I will agree that these guys could sell me anything.

First up is Andre Claude-

Now here is Nathan Kamp

How about Julian Fantechi-

(Hmm…yes…bigger is better, right?)

Last for today is the old stand by, Fabio

(neither can we)

Lets do a little poll, nothing serious, which one of these guys is your fave?

My blogger friend, Julie, likes Paul Marron and I can’t blame her.  Here is a pic of him on the cover of a JR Ward Book:

Kindle books available from the library

Are you a Kindle owner in the USA?  Amazon has expanded their beta-test from the Seattle area libraries to 11,000 U.S. libraries.  Now you will be able to borrow Kindle books from your local library.  This will most likely be expanded to include international libraries but they are not talking about it at the moment.  (Sorry! to my Canadian and Australian friends)  To learn more go to your local library’s website.  You can also go to Amazon’s page for information:

Banned Book Week Starts on Saturday 24th

Did you choose a banned book to read? As I mentioned in my previous post about this event, I have read a few in the past. Since I’m right now a bit overwhelmed with a pile of books to read I will honor the week by watching the DVD of the Masterpiece Theater presentation of Moll Flanders. It is based on the book by Daniel Defoe which was a banned book at one time.

(Is this considered cheating?)

Review- Silk And Shadows: Book 1 of the Silk Trilogy

Title: Silk and Shadows: Book 1 of the Silk Trilogy

Genre: Historical Romance

Author: Mary Jo Putney

Source: purchase, Kindle

Rating: 5

Sexy Rating: 5, explicit

Description from

He called himself Peregrine, the wanderer, and he came to London for revenge…

Like the falcon he named himself for, Peregrine is wild and free, an exotic prince who fascinates 1839 London with his wealth, mystery, and dangerous allure. He emerged from his mysterious Asiatic past to exact retribution for an appalling crime. Nothing and no one can stop him—except perhaps Lady Sara St. James, whose fragile beauty conceals a gentle heart, genuine goodness, and a soul of steel.

Unable to resist his seductive charm, Lady Sara turns away from her ordered life to embrace a man she loves, but cannot fully trust. In Sara, Peregrine sees a chance for a life beyond revenge. But can he keep her without revealing his devastating secrets? Or protect her from the enemy he has vowed to destroy?

The Silk Trilogy:
#1 Silk and Shadows
#2 Silk and Secrets
#3 Veils of Silk

Oh Wow! I loved this novel!  It was originally written in 2000 and just rereleased on Kindle.  This is my first Mary Jo Putney novel and I will definitely read more.

The villain in this story is so evil.  I can’t remember a villain this evil in another Historical Romance.  But not to be outdone is the hero, Peregrine, who is out for revenge and becomes obsessed with his quarry.  His obsession leads him to all manner of dastardly (did I just write dastardly?) deeds in the name of vengeance.

The heroine, Sara, falls under the spell of Peregrine for he has a magnetic personality and soon she has a broken engagement and is marrying the exotic newcomer.

Putney has developed these vastly different personalities into characters that jump off the page.  The secondary characters are ripe for sequels and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of them in later books in the trilogy.  This is a dark historical romance.  There are truly malevolent people and even the good guys have flaws; some definitely more wicked than others.

The romance is not tender and sweet, it is quick and passionate and we are left to wonder if it is just another of the hero’s ploys.

A really good read.  Now available from Amazon Kindle for $3.99.
