This was most definitely a reimagined CINDERELLA story. There was a long sensuous build up to the H/h falling in love. Well….it took them two or three days. Eloisa James is a master at making us fall in love with her heroes and at the same time rooting for her heroine’s happily ever after. All through the book we are on pins and needles wondering how our lovers will find a way to be together. This is a fairytale and, delightfully, we are not treated to silliness so often found in books of this sort. This was pure romance; even the godmother was a down to earth breath of fresh air. The step-sister was lovely not cruel. The step mother was definitely nasty. The Prince was hunky and handsome and of course, Kate went from ordinary to beautiful.
Recommended for all romantics.

I was disappointed with this one. I couldn’t warm towards Gabriel at all and the romance didn’t work for me. I just found the love scene in the turret room distasteful and his grovelling came too late. I did enjoy the zany humour and the quirky secondary characters.

Dot, have you read When Beauty Tamed the Beast the 2nd book in the series? I really loved this one!

Yes, I did read it and liked it. You can see all the Eloisa James books I’ve read and reviewed if you just type in her name in the “Search” box in the left hand column of this blog. Or you can type any author’s name and if I’ve reviewed it it will come up. My favorite James book is not one of her historicals but her memoir.
