Description from

Lady Isobel Maitland cannot afford to be caught doing anything even remotely scandalous, or she risks losing everything she holds dear. But one night, in a dark garden at a masquerade ball, Isobel gives in to temptation and lets an innocent flirtation with the notorious Marquess of Blackwood turn into passion.

The Marquess is no stranger to seduction or intrigue, and his rake’s reputation disguises a deadly mission. When his mystery lover flees before he can learn her name, he knows he must find her. But all clues lead toward the prim and dowdy Isobel Maitland. It appears the lady has secrets of her own, secrets that Blackwood would dearly love to uncover . . .

This is a delightful romance full of truly dastardly villains, spies, tormenting secrets, true friendship, and heated encounters of both the romantic and the violent kinds.  Did I mention that it even has a laugh out loud scene?  All in all, this entire debut novel from Lecia Cornwall is a real winner.

There is a rule of thumb in romance writing that you don’t start off the book with a hot and steamy romance (euphemism for sex) scene.  Cornwall breaks that rule and proves rules are made to be broken.  She has written a plot that keeps you turning pages into the wee hours.  She has a hero that you fall in love with and a heroine that your heart aches for as she tries to protect her 5 year old son.

I give this debut a 5 out of 5 stars and hope that Lecia Cornwall has many more books to capture our imagination. Yay! For great new authors!!
