STATE SECRETS by Linda Lael Miller
Secret Service agent David Goddard never expected to spend his Christmas surveilling the president’s cousin. But after weeks of studying her, he finds that Holly Llewellyn’s life continues to remain a mystery. Tangled in the controversy swirling around them, David wonders, is it her secrets that fascinate him…or Holly herself?
Deet’s review– No surprise that this accomplished author has written a good story. Holly is under surveillance because her brother is a fugitive suspected of treason. Holly and David have fallen in love at first sight but the secrets each is keeping from the other threatens to explode their budding romance. This story’s setting is the holiday season and beyond into January. The characters are well fleshed out and side characters add to the story. It is an interesting premise and Ms Miller pulls it off beautifully.

THE FIVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS by Lindsay McKenna
Morgan Trayhern’s toughest mercenary, Colt Hamlin, is looking to lie low this Christmas, but he may just have a change of heart when his matchmaking boss puts him in the path of Montana’s prettiest widow.
Deet’s review: Abbie lost her husband in an auto accident two years prior to her friend Laura asking her to let Colt help her with the decorations for the annual Five-Days of Christmas parities held by the Black Ops headquarters. Colt was recently off a mission and was suffering from PTSD and Laura thought he was too reclusive and needed to get out in society more. Abbie and Colt had instant rapport that escalated to romance.
The fact that this hero was traumatized and cried quite a bit and got all emotional, made this story not quite what I want in a romantic hero. That the H/h got engaged after knowing each other for five days also seemed a bit too much. ..for me. The story was certainly well written, and if you are up for a totally schmaltzy story and have a full box of tissues handy then you will love this story.
