Description from Amazon:

It was a time when gods walked the earth, when armies fought not for bits of land, but for the very existence of humanity. On such a battlefield, five formidable warriors stood against an evil greater than any the earth had ever seen. But evil is not an honorable foe. Betrayed by someone they trusted, the warriors were cursed, one by one, tossed into the maelstrom of time, imprisoned in stone, their freedom resting on nearly impossible conditions. Until . . .

Kato Amadi . . . born of darkest sorcery, unstoppable on the battlefield, his magic is as deadly as his blade. But not even magic could save him from vicious betrayal. Trapped for millennia in darkness and silence, he is freed at last, only to find himself in the middle of a battle against the very beasts of hell he was created to destroy.

Grace Van Allen is a scholar of ancient languages who toils in the dim recesses of a museum basement with only a beautiful stone warrior to keep her company. But when Grace calls upon her silent warrior to help her translate an obscure new language, she breaks the ancient curse holding him prisoner . . . and frees three deadly demons to rampage through her city.

Tracking demons is what Kato was born to do, but he’ll need Grace’s help. And when they discover that Kato’s enemy is still alive and still plotting against him, their hunt takes a dangerous turn, one that might just prove fatal for both of them . . .

**

Hold on to your bloomers, the studliness of Warrior Kato is going to melt them right off. Grace can’t resist him so how are we supposed to resist, and who would want to? If we have to go up against deadly blood-dripping demons I want this guy covering for me. We also get to see Nick, Damien and Cassey from book one but this is truly Kato’s show. Grace who works at the museum at first appears rather sedate but as the story unfolds we are treated to Grace the female warrior. Here’s a hint, she falls for Kato just as much as the reader but she gets dessert and we get to sigh. There are lots of bloody battles fought, so be forewarned. There is magic in this book both Dark and Light and I am once again totally in love with Nick. I did want more of Ryan the mathematician because that was a bit of a mystery not completely resolved. (perhaps D.B. will treat us to more of him in future books).

Here’s a riddle for you; what’s hotter than a summer heat wave? I thought you would be way ahead of me on this one. Correct, this absolutely mind bending, mind boggling, vicious, sexy down right dirty, delightful novel from Ms. Reynolds. This is number two in her Stone warriors series and she has once again come through with an original plot that kept me riveted. You can start with this book since there is sufficient back-story incorporated and you won’t be lost but reading the first book , the Stone Warriors: Damien, along with this one will make it more enjoyable. Then like me you will wait impatiently for the next in the series, The Stone warriors: Gabriel, to which we are given a peek at the end of this book.

**

I’m always wondering how to classify the genre of the Vampires In America Series.  Yes, it is Paranormal Romance but it is also Urban Fantasy, Romantic Suspense and Erotic Romance.  It is romance in that the focus is always on the romantic involvement of the main characters but the running side story is all about vampire politics which is often violent and conniving.  In this installment we are treated to the most romantic of all of Reynolds’ vampires.  Lucifer Scuderi loved Eleanor before she was made a vampire and lost her twenty years ago. Now he finds her again as his aide in recovering the kidnapped Colin and he has no intentions of losing her again. Eleanor is still besotted with Lucifer but thinks that their relationship is doomed because she thinks two vampires cannot find happiness together. Together they make a formidable team in the search for Colin.

This series is still going strong after eleven books which is to the credit of terrific writing and an author not afraid to change things up. Always, Ms. Reynolds’ heroines are feisty and quite able to take care of themselves in this violent world. Eleanor is a vampire to be reckoned with. Humans, those not a love interest of the protagonists, are relegated to bit-part players, usually as daytime trusted guards of the vampires. I would like to see humans playing a more pivotal role in the series. There is a lot of sex in this book. A lot! I personally would have liked less because the story did not need this amount to carry the plot or theme. I even found myself skipping some sex scenes, which is far beyond what I usually do, so I could get back to the meat of the story. The action scenes are truly well choreographed and leave us biting our nails to wait for the end of the confrontation.  The suspense is riveting.

This is a superb addition to a superb series.  Yes, this is a standalone book but you would do well to enjoy the entire series starting with book #1 RAPHAEL. You can type in my search box Vampires In America to find my reviews for all of the books in the series.

Recent Release Review- The Stone Warriors: Damian by D.B. Reynolds

Description from Amazon.com

It was a time when gods walked the earth, when armies fought not for bits of land, but for the very existence of humanity. Betrayed by someone they trusted, the warriors were cursed, one by one, tossed into the maelstrom of time, imprisoned in stone, their freedom resting on nearly impossible conditions. Until . . .

Damian Stephanos honed his skills in battles fought with magic as much as swords. Caught by a deadly spell that left him trapped for centuries in darkness and obscurity, he is finally freed, only to discover that his enemy still lives. Determined to find him—and to free his brothers in arms—he first must fulfill his blood debt to the woman who released him from his torment. Unfortunately, being so close to this enticing female is another type of torment altogether . . .

Cassandra “Casey” Lewis is a hunter. Possessing the rare ability to sense magic, she spends most of her time shadowing arcane collectors, and more often than not, stealing the dangerous artifacts she pursues. Her job is risky, especially when she’s stealing from one of the most powerful sorcerers alive. But having a gorgeous warrior by her side is a definite bonus. He’s great in a fight . . . and in other places, too. Following a trail of dead bodies, the two of them must join forces to track down the sorcerer who cursed Damian, and who now plans to turn an ordinary magical device into a deadly weapon. Risking everything, including their hearts, they’re about to discover that trusting each other might be the hardest thing of all.

**

That description is spot-on so I’m not going to repeat it here.  Let me tell you about Damian; 6’5” tall and broad shoulders, “the face of a god”, dark eyes and long blond hair.  He is an ancient warrior that was cursed to be in a statue until a warrior woman freed him. Now let me tell you about that Kick-A$% warrior woman who freed him; Cassandra Lewis, 6’ tall, slim, athletic, long dark hair, possesses the ability to sense magic and very definitely a modern woman.

There is no shortage of action and violence in this book #1 of the new Stone Warriors series.  We start out with Casey being hunted by Hellhounds and running with a bullet in her shoulder. And that’s in the first few pages.  We have Damian coming to rescue and he demands she set him free.  Well you can guess how that turns out.  Stay glued to your E-Reader for some D.B. Reynolds’ trademark sizzling, scrumptious sexy scenes.  Casey’s boss Nick Katsaros, an ancient sorcerer that we have met briefly in previous books by Reynolds, pops in and out of the narrative never staying very long (my only complaint, since I LOVE Nick), but he is around to help the two warriors and aide in their mission. Let’s not leave out the evil, foul, wicked, malicious Sotiris, the arch enemy of Nick and also a supremely powerful sorcerer. Now if you think all this action takes place in some fantasy world you would be mistaken.  This is our world populated by vampires and now sorcerers and ancient warriors.  Didn’t know about them, did you? When Reynolds brings these beings to life you are convinced they are walking among us.

This book reads like an action film.  It has pulse pounding exploits, car chases, passionate kisses and Hellhounds. Really, you don’t want to miss this one.

From Deet: You all know I’m a huge fan of this author and I’m waiting on pins and needles for this new series. There is no mention in this blurb of Nick Katsaros, the sorcerer from the Vampires in America series, and more recently the COMPELLED novella, but I’m hoping he makes an appearance.

Description from Amazon.com:

VAMPIRE . . . Raphael is a power like the world has never seen, the force behind the first ever alliance of North American lords, Cyn’s mate, lover, master.

SORCERER . . . Nick Katsaros, deceptively charming, ancient and commanding, driven by vengeance and a devastating loss, Cyn’s friend and one-time lover.

HUMAN . . . Cynthia “Cyn” Leighton, beautiful, sexy, and smart, the woman both men desire.

It was only a few months ago that Raphael lay helpless and dying, taken by treachery, while Cyn fought to save him. Unexpectedly, it was Nick who provided the key to his freedom. In exchange, he secured a promise that they would help him find and recover the same magical artifact that had been used to imprison Raphael. But when he calls on them to keep that promise, it will be Cyn who pays the price. Torn between the two powerful men, struggling to keep them from killing each other, she undertakes a desperate search that will find her fighting for her life against a madman who wants her for himself.

**

Once again, in the fabulous Vampires In America series, we are treated to our favorite lovers, human Cyn and vampire Raphael. This time they have sorcerer Nick Katsaros calling in a promise to help him find the magical Amber Manacles. Can Cyn keep Raphael and Nick from causing each other bodily harm? The power of Raphael bounces off the page.  The mysterious Nick is more subtle and his power seems more controlled than Raphael. But then Raphael is jealous of Cyn’s past with Nick.

I personally can’t get enough of Cyn and her vampire but this deeper introduction to Nick is putting him on my book boyfriend radar.  Who wouldn’t want an ancient, all powerful, handsome as sin sorcerer? Well, hells bells, this guy is certainly no Dumbldore.  And since Cyn is already totally occupied by Raphael that leaves Nick up for grabs and I call dibs.

This is a quick read, only 128 pages, but it is full of steamy scenes and lots of action all well written by D.B. Reynolds.  Nick will get his own series so we don’t have to say good-bye.  My only objection is that I wanted more.  Also that Cyn really wasn’t very smart and she made a big mistake.  I really like Our Cyn to not make these big faux pas.

Can you tell I’m totally invested in this series??  I highly recommend this swift paced, superbly entertaining novella as well as the entire series. This is a standalone novella with informative reference to past interactions between the characters.

Description from Amazon.com:

They want him dead and her enslaved . . . Texas . . . the heart of a territory that stretches from the golden deserts of New Mexico to the turquoise shores of the Florida Keys. It’s big, it’s rich, and it’s the next battleground for some of the most dangerous vampires in the world. Christian Duvall . . . charismatic and powerful, and determined to claim the South as his own. But with old enemies and new fighting to stop him, victory suddenly takes on a brutal, and far more treacherous, edge. Because what one of his enemies wants more than anything else already belongs to Christian . . . and her name is Natalie. Natalie Vivant Gaudet . . . brilliant and lovely, a strong Southern woman who can unravel the most intricate financial schemes designed to swindle and steal. She loves her complex job and the simplicity of her life. And then she meets Christian. He’s beautiful, he’s complicated, and she’ll fight to keep him alive. With allies trying to kill him, and enemies readying a horde of zombie vampires to roll over all of Texas, it will take every shred of Christian’s power and Natalie’s determination to win this war and give North America a brand new Lord of the South.

**

We are introduced to Christian, a powerful vampire from France, who approaches the vampire lord of the West, Raphael, with a request to be included in the challenge for the territory of the South in the USA. Christian needs the tacit approval from Raphael who is deemed the unofficial but esteemed leader of the Vampires in America.  Christian travels to Houston to meet with retiring Lord Anthony and there meets and has an instant attraction with Anthony’s forensic Accountant Natalie.  The attraction is mutual but Anthony is jealous.  There is another European Master Vampire who is making efforts to foil all of Christian’s plans to take over the South.

Some series start to slow down and become redundant with so many books, not this series.  The Vampire Wars, a continuation of the Vampires In America series, started with Reynold’s book #9 DECEPTION and with CHRISTIAN (book #10) we find the series ramping up the intrigue, thrills and more vampire power-plays.  The romance is sensual, lusty and loving.  Christian is a bit kinky and there may be a ménage a trois in Natalie’s future.  Not such a bad thing to look forward to with Christian and his hunky lieutenant Marc Forest.  The introduction of the vampire zombies gave heart pounding action as the fate of our heroes was in doubt. The demonstration of Christian’s power was breathtaking.

This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone novel because Reynold’s is adept at weaving background information throughout the plot.

This series is at the top of my list for fabulous Paranormal Romance with plenty of action, thrills and hot sexy Vampires. No sparkles here but plenty of charisma.

Description from Amazon.com:

Sinaloa, Mexico . . . haunting deserts, hot nights, and vampires, who’ve been there for hundreds of years, watching from the shadows, playing their games, manipulating humans, and surviving at any cost. Vincent Kuxim, powerful and charismatic, was made vampire by an ambitious leader looking for soldiers to pave his way to the rule of all Mexico. But more than a century later, Vincent’s Sire is looking over his shoulder as Vincent closes in for the kill, ready to claim the title Lord of Mexico for himself. Lana Arnold is a bounty hunter, smart, beautiful, and determined to chart her own future. So when the most powerful vampire lord in all of North America enlists her help in tracking down a very old and elusive bloodsucker, Lana sees nothing but opportunity. There’s only one catch. The client wants her to take Vincent—a vampire she neither knows nor trusts—along on her hunt. Then again, maybe it’s herself she doesn’t trust, because Vincent Kuxim is sex walking in a pair of tight black jeans. Thrown together by circumstance, Vincent and Lana soon find themselves battling an evil they didn’t know existed in a fight that makes Vincent all the more determined to destroy his Sire, seize Mexico for himself . . . and keep Lana by his side forever.

**

Once again I had to clear my schedule because I could not put this book down. Vincent is the epitome of the powerful, dangerously violent, charismatic vampire, who just happens to be drop-dead handsome. Lana works for her father as a bounty hunter but is trying to take on Private Investigation work so she can start her own business. She is doing a job when she is sent to meet Vincent and she does not know diddly about vampires. Over the next few days of their acquaintance she learns everything.

How I see Vincent sometimes:

Vincent Arron Diaz

How I see Vincent other times:

Vincent Eduardo Verastegui

How I see Lana:

Beautiful woman with perfect face

What you get in a D.B. Reynolds’ novel is plenty of action, adventure, off the chart sexual chemistry and a splendidly entertaining read. This offering, from an accomplished storyteller, has a well plotted story with a swift pace. This book in the series I found to have a bit more bloody violence and a wonderfully satisfying build-up in sexual tension. Our romantic pair do not do-the-deed until chapter sixteen (yes, I made a note of this) but then have trouble keeping their heads on business. The evil bad guys are truly evil villains and the good guys are honorable even if a bit of the-end-justifies-the-means slips into their philosophy.

You have already guessed that I highly recommend this book to Paranormal Romance enthusiasts, but Thriller and Urban Fantasy fans will also find this series to be right up their alley.
