Description from amazon.com:

She was desperate for his help…

When a mysterious lady, her face hidden by a black veil, begs Gabriel Cynster for his help, he cannot refuse her plea. For despite her disguise, Gabriel finds the woman alluring and he is powerless to deny her. But he exacts payment as only a Cynster would demand: with each piece of information he uncovers, she must pay him – in the form of a kiss.

He was powerless to resist…

Lady Alathea Morwellan knows Gabriel is intrigued, but despite the sparks that fly between them, they have never passed a civil moment together. Yet as the stakes get higher, so does Gabriel′s desire for payment. And with each overpowering kiss, each passionate embrace, Alathea knows that she will not be able to resist his ultimate seduction…but what will happen when she reveals the truth?

I think this was my favorite of the Cynster Series, so far, although DEVIL’S BRIDE comes close.  I felt like this one was truly the most passionate.  All of Ms Lauren’s books are very steamy but this one had passion.

Most all the books I’ve read do have a common theme of confirmed bachelor who turns into a man hell-bent on marriage and a strong minded woman who is hell-bent on not getting married.  In other words just the challenge our hunky, hero Cynster men thrive on.  But I think I really like Gabriel and Alathea the best of all the heroes and heroines.  They grew up together and have been fighting their attraction since their teens, they even think they don’t like each other.  But fate intervenes.

Ms Laurens can write characterization like nobody else.  Her side characters just brim with personality and I long for their stories.

Then why does this one rate only a 4.5?  Well, there are a couple of plot devices that are just a bit too cliché and convenient.  Not enough to detract from the story, or my loving it, but enough for this jaded reviewer to find annoying. Yes, it was hard to believe Gabriel did not recognize her, yes, it was too predictable that Gabriel was not by her side when she was called to a dangerous situation and it was a bit unbelievable that she went alone.

5 .    A Secret Love (4.5 stars)

14.   A taste of Innocence (3 stars)

The Cynster Sisters Trilogy:
