A MOST INDECENT PROPOSAL

Annabelle Green needs a husband-and quickly. To inherit the only home she’s ever known, she must be married by her twenty-fifth birthday. But finding a suitor has been next to impossible after a reckless rogue named Quinton Carlisle seduced her into a scandalous midnight tryst. Her reputation in ruins, Belle now needs a rather large favor. And she knows just who to turn to . . .

Quinn can hardly believe that the shy bookish girl he teased as a child has grown into such a brazen beauty. The very idea of marrying Belle to right the wrongs of his past is downright shocking . . . and deliciously tempting. Too bad marriage, convenient or otherwise, is the last thing Quinn wants. He’ll help Belle find a husband and be on his way. But if he can’t control his attraction to the bride-to-be, this marriage could go up in flames-of wicked desire.

**
Anna Harrington gives us another delightful romance in her Capturing The Carlisles series. Quinn caused Annabelle to be ruined some years prior and she has not forgiven or forgotten. Now she must find a husband so that she can claim her inheritance. Her Foster mother sends for Quinn, her nephew, to help in finding that husband. The local neighbor thinks he should be the bridegroom since her land would benefit his coffers and he seems to be a dastardly villain capable of all kinds of evils. Quinn realizes that if he is to help Annabelle he must find a way to circumvent his Uncle’s will.

Yes, there is romance. Two people so intent on not believing their true feelings for each other and sexual tension that just seems to grow more lusty. Well written with characters who although blind to their own feelings are none the less well drawn. A good book to curl up with on a rainy summer afternoon.

Description from Amazon/ Review From Deet:
HOW A LASS WED A HIGHLANDER by Lecia Cornwall
In this retelling of The Princess and The Pea, Laird Alex Munro of Culmore has just five weeks to find a bride and marry her…or else the clan will be cursed with ill luck. Cait MacLeod finds herself caught in a clan feud, and when she tries to stop a deadly raid, she ends up as Alex Munro’s prisoner. With timing running out, is this couple meant to be?

This is a fairytale complete with the expectation of fairy help or interference. It is a true Highland story with clan hostilities, good Lairds and bad and bonnie lasses who are looking for romance. Side characters seem so much wiser than the protagonists. Deets rating: 4.5

A MATCH MADE IN HEATHER by Anna Harrington
She was the laird’s daughter. He was nothing more than a penniless, nameless Scot with nothing to offer but his heart. Fate tore them apart, but now he’s back in her life with status, money and a title. Can they let go of past hurts and find love?
Whatever Anna Harrington writes turns out to be page turning and beautifully written and this story is no exception. There are revenge, longing, lust and dark secrets. Deet’s rating: 5

A MIDSUMMER WEDDING by May McGoldrick
Their marriage was two decades in the making. The young, educated woman and her highland, pirate husband, betrothed when they were still children. But on the day of their wedding, Elizabeth Hay and Alexander Macpherson are in for a surprise.

Another luscious addition to this anthology. Be prepared to put on a sweater because the chill of these characters in the rain for two days will give you trembles. Deets rating: 4.5

THE SCOT SAYS I DO by Sabrina York
Catherine Ross’s world is turned upside down when her brother gambles away every penny they own. But to make matters worse? He’s lost everything to none other than Duncan Mackay, the rugged Scot who Catherine loved for years–but he never noticed her, and now she positively loathes him. But her brother’s in danger of going to Newgate, and the despicable Duncan has a plan– she can claim back the money and save her brother. If she marries him…

This one is so yummy! Sabrina York knows her Highlanders and she can make us fall in love with the tough, brawny, yet tenderhearted Duncan just as Catherine did all those years ago. Deet‘s rating: 5

This Anthology is really a cut above the usual in that every novella was a winner. I’m used to finding stories in anthologies that are good and not so good and in this one they are all better than good. They are excellent. There is beautiful romance, suspense and sexy times. This is one for the keeper shelf.

Description from Amazon.com:

A LESSON IN SEDUCTION . . . Miranda Hodgkins has only ever wanted one thing: to marry Robert Carlisle. And she simply can’t wait a moment longer. During the Carlisle family masquerade ball, Miranda boldly sneaks into his bedchamber with seduction on her mind. Soon she’s swept into rock-hard arms for the most breathtaking kiss of her life. But when the masks come off, she’s horrified to find herself face-to-face with Sebastian, the Duke of Trent-Robert’s formidable older brother.

Shocked to find Miranda in his bed, Sebastian quickly offers her a deal to avoid scandal: He’ll help her win his brother’s heart if she’ll find him the perfect wife. But what begins as a simple negotiation soon spirals out of control. For the longer this reformed rake tries to make a match for Miranda, the more he wants to keep her all to himself.

**

Humorous….no ….it is absolutely hysterical at times.  There is sexual tension, hijinks and confusion all adding up to a delightful read.  Sebastian knows that the orphaned ward of his tenant farmer, Miranda, is not the woman of society standing that he needs for his Duchess but he can’t seem to help himself in his obsessive lusting after her.  Miranda, wants Robert but there is something compelling her toward Sebastian.  This is a fun book that is witty without being silly and dramatic without ever being maudlin.  Anna Harrington has given us a terrific start to her new series and I can’t wait to read the books about Sebastian’s brothers Quinton and Robert Carlisle. I highly recommend this book.

Description from Amazon.com:

His wicked charm intrigues her, but that’s where it ends. For Josie has a little secret . . . . . . LEADS TO AN EXQUISITE SEDUCTION Espionage was Thomas Matteson, Marquess of Chesney’s game-until a tragic accident cost him his career. He’s no fool-he knows Josie, with her wild chestnut hair and rapier-sharp wit, is hiding something and he won’t rest until he unravels her mysteries, one by one. But he never expected to be the one under arrest-body and soul . . .

The end of the SECRET LIFE OF SCOUNDRELS trilogy!! This story of Thomas and Josie is a fitting finale.  I knew from the first book in this series that I had discovered a very talented author and the three books in this trilogy certainly never let me down.

Josie has secrets that she can’t reveal and Thomas is all about finding out secrets.  At a house party they meet and there is an overwhelming attraction between them.  But Josie must guard her secret and she tries to avoid Thomas because she feels he is too good at ferreting out secrets.

There are plenty of sizzling encounters and lots of action.  There is also a well written ending to this book that I will not spoil because I know you are going to read this one until dawns early light.

Although this is certainly a standalone novel, I do suggest that you will get so much more from this book if you read the two that go before.  This book not only contains the love story of Thomas Matteson, a former spy in service to the crown, but it also features two of his fellow spies Edward and Nathaniel.  They are integral in aiding Thomas to rout the bad guy and reading that part of this book was more meaningful having read their stories in the previous two novels of the series. Therefore I suggest you treat yourself to the entire series and start at the beginning for a truly wonderful historical romance read.

THE WICKEDEST SECRET . . .

Major Nathaniel Grey is free to bed whomever he wants, whenever he chooses, and that’s exactly how he likes it. His only loyalties are to country and the two friends he served with-brothers he’d do anything for. So when one of them is gravely injured and asking for his little sister, Grey will move heaven and earth to bring her home. He’s greeted not by the gangly girl he remembers, but a stunningly beautiful woman holding a loaded musket. And he’s utterly captivated by her . . .

IS A SECRET SEDUCTION

Once upon a time, Emily would have loved nothing more than a stolen hour with her brother’s best friend, the dashing officer who captured her heart and soul. But things are different now-and so is she. Gone is the eager young woman who believed in love. In her place is a widow weighed down with secrets who desperately needs to disappear before they’re revealed. But Grey’s sinfully sexy smile offers protection unlike anything she’s ever known, tempting her to risk everything . . . even her heart.

**

The wait for Nathaniel Grey’s story is over! He is the spy introduced in Ms. Harrington’s first book DUKES ARE FOREVER ( Deet’s review here: https://ladeetdareads.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/recent-release-review-dukes-are-forever-by-anna-harrington/ ).  I am enjoying this new author and she didn’t disappoint with this the second entry in her, THE SECRET LIFE OF SCOUNDRELS SERIES .  This is a standalone novel but we are treated to glimpses of Kate and Edward from the first book.

This is a story of two lovers from different social classes who feel they have no hope of finding their Happily Ever After.  Emily feels that if she encourages Nathaniel to give up his dreams of adventure then he will eventually resent her.  Nathaniel comes to realize that his dreams mean nothing if they don’t include Emily.  But how to convince her? That is what keeps us turning pages along with the suspense of who is out to harm Emily.

We are fortunate in that the third book in the series, HOW I MARRIED A MARQUESS, is available for preorder and to be published April 26, 2016.  It is the story of Emily’s brother, Thomas, who is also Nathaniel’s best friend.

I received this book free for review from the publisher.
