If you haven’t read a Carla Kelly book then you must start here.  Then like me you will search out her backlist.

This is a delightful story with some youthful hijinks, humor, intrepid lovers, soon-to-be lovers and Christmas in the country appeal. All is not Christmas candy, there is an estate in need of a cash infusion and a very overworked young woman trying her best to hold all together. Highly Recommended!!

Oh Really! Now we have Sexy Elves invading my posts!

Emma Costello owes a debt of honor to one of the most dishonorable lords in the realm. The infamous Lord Ragsdale is as rich as sin, as sinful as he is rich, and as heartless as he is handsome. But after he saves Emma from a life of indentured servitude and shame, she decides that it is her personal duty to save him from his reckless ways . . . without falling in love.

This was my first Carla Kelly novel and she has written many.  I was so impressed at how historically accurate it was and how she brought to life the era with her plot and dialog.  There was a good deal of suspense that unfolded along with the romance.

The story is of an unlikely alliance of an Irish servant woman with a peer of the realm.    She has a troubled past that is uncovered slowly throughout the story.  He has a troubled past and is in need of overcoming a tragedy.  Together they help each other.

The writing is top notch, the characterization is top notch, the story is wonderful and the only thing lacking is a bit of romantic steam.  This was an exceptionally good read.
