Description from Amazon.com:

WARNING: This historical romance is cotton candy with a razor on top. If you are easily offended by dirty humor and graphic sex, this book is not for you.

After Miss Leona Olivia Webster had allowed herself to fall in love with a dashing childhood friend who had left her scorned and pregnant, she is done chasing her happily-ever-after. Shunned by society, she dedicates herself to raising her young son and putting money in their pockets. She doesn’t expect to be drawn to her latest master, a brooding man of hulking presence who carves random messages into walls with his Persian blade as a means of starting a flirtation. Malcolm Gregory Thayer, the earl of Brayton, may have dedicated himself to a life of religious virtue after leaving the monastery due to dark tendencies, but after meeting Leona, he begins to yearn for the life that had never been his. When he meets a retired French courtesan who invites him to embrace what he has long feared, he seizes the opportunity to become the man he always wanted to be. His new mission is clear. He intends to finally serve the one thing he never had: his heart.

**

Right off you have to know that this book is not only sexy but it is kinky and gritty. The faint of heart will not like it. Thankfully I’m not of the faint type. It explores Malcolm’s predilection for pleasure produced by pain. His guilt and his coming to grips with his “affliction”. Leona falls in love with Malcolm and struggles to understand this brooding, often gruff man with a kind heart.

This series has been often surprising and at times disturbing but always, always entertaining. Ms. Marvelle writes intriguing stories with superbly sensual nuances as well as characters with fiery, passionate, and sometimes shameful secrets. In this story Malcolm tries to cope with powerful emotional conflict. He is not always admirable but we do sympathize with his emotional pain.

It is not necessary to read the series from the beginning to enjoy this book but you will derive a better understanding of the School of Gallantry if you do start from the beginning.

Advance review- The Fall of Lady Grace by Julia London

Title:  The Fall of Lady Grace (book #2, The Cabot Sisters Series)

The Fall of Grace

 Genre: Historical Romance/ Regency

Author: Julia London

Publisher:  Harlequin HQN, July 29, 2014

Rating: 4.5

Sexy Rating: 5+

Description from Amazon.com:

A plan born of desperation…

Once the toast of society, Grace Cabot and her sisters now await the shame of losing high status and fine luxuries upon the death of the Earl of Beckington. The dire circumstances are inevitable unless, of course, Grace’s wicked plot to seduce a wealthy viscount into marriage goes off without a single hitch. But once a stolen embrace with the wrong man leads her to be discovered in the arms of Jeffrey, the Earl of Merryton, her plan takes a most unexpected—and scorching—twist.

…and altered by passion.

Governed by routine and ruled by duty, Jeffrey had no desire for a wife before he succumbed to Grace’s temptation. Though his golden-haired, in-name-only bride is the definition of disorder, he can’t resist wanting her in every way. But once her secrets meet his, society might consider their lives to be ruined beyond repair…while Jeffrey might just see it as a new beginning

**

Oh the delight in starting a book that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go until the end. Jeffrey suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and some out-of-the-ordinary sexual proclivities. He thinks he is insane and tries to cover up his problems to avoid a scandal in society. Grace, after their forced marriage, thinks something is wrong but is determined to help Jeffrey.

This is one scorching and kinky romance. Julia London has penned an engrossing tale that will leave you breathless. This is definitely a delightful read and wonderful addition to the Cabot Sisters Series that started with THE TROUBLE WITH HONOR.

The Sweet Spot

 Genre:  Erotic Romance

Author: Stephanie Evanovich

Publisher: Harper Collins, July 2014

Source: Free for review from the Amazon Vine Program

Rating: 4

Sexy Rating: 5+

Description from Amazon.com:

A sizzling story of everyone’s favorite couple from amazing Stephanie Evanovich’s New York Times bestseller Big Girl Panties: hunky professional baseball player Chase Walker and his sassy wife Amanda.

When pro baseball player Chase Walker first meets Amanda at her restaurant, it’s love at first sight. While Amanda can’t help noticing the superstar with the Greek-god-build, he doesn’t have a chance of getting to first—or any other—base with her. A successful entrepreneur who’s built her business from scratch, Amanda doesn’t need a Prince Charming to sweep her off her feet. And a curvy girl who likes to cook and eat isn’t interested in being around the catty, stick-thin herd of females chasing Chase and his teammates.

But Chase isn’t about to strike out. A man who isn’t interested in playing the field, he’s a monogamist who wants an independent woman like Amanda. His hopes rally when she discovers that squeaky-clean Chase has a few sexy and very secret pre-game rituals that turn the smart, headstrong businesswoman on—and into his number one fan.

Then a tabloid discovers the truth and turns their spanking good fun into a late- night punchline. Is Amanda ready to let loose and swing for the fences? Or will the pressure of Chase’s stardom force them to call it quits?

**

Chase Walker is an Alpha of the first order. He wants total control and Amanda won’t allow it, so it is inevitable that they fall in love. But Amanda is a sweet, sassy, good girl and Chase has the reputation of an all American boy next door but he is really into some kink in the bedroom. How this all plays out between them and the media is the heart of this well written book.

There is consensual spanking throughout this story. That is the way these two enjoy their relationship. It is only later on toward the end that some of Chase’s actions call into question if at some point he might go beyond the fun and games. That is disturbing to me and I wonder at Amanda’s total disregard of the incident.

I thought this book very well written. I was hoping for some of the humor of her first book, BIG GIRL PANTIES, but I was totally enthralled with the relationship of these two characters. I recommend this book.

Review- Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

Title: Wallbanger

Wallbanger

 Genre: Erotic Romance

Author: Alice Clayton

Publisher: Gallery Books, Feb. 2013

Source: purchase

Rating: 2.5

Sexy Rating: 5+

Description from Amazon.com:

Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a Kitchen Aid mixer to die for, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O. Adding insult to O-less, she also has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Every moan, spank, and—was that a meow?—punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has—yep, you guessed it—no O. Enter Simon Parker. When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has…well…mixed results. Because with walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick. A delicious mix of silly and steamy, this is an irresistible tale of exasperation at first sight.

**

This is very sexy chick-lit.  On Amazon this book has, as of this writing, 2,654 reviews, 1,937 five-star reviews and 154 three star reviews and this one makes it 155. ( I changed my mind and only gave it two-stars on Amazon) Why didn’t I like it as well as all those other reviewers?  Well, it starts off with a bang, literally, and it seemed like a cute chick-lit premise.  But the heroine is so self indulgent and whiny that I found it hard to get to actually like her.   The hero on the other hand is handsome and hot as all get out but he is having friends-with-benefits arrangements with three other women. For me this would be a red flag but not for our heroine.  Oh yes, she does doubt a bit but hopes that the “harem” will just dissolve.  We anxiously wait for this to happen so our dear heroine can get some.  Well finally it looks like she will throw caution to the wind and make a move on our hero and he says sorry “no”.  Then we wait until the end of the book before these two stop teasing each other ad nauseum and actually do get it on and by this time I don’t care anymore.  The humor is forced and the side characters, who are supposed to be adult, act like teenagers. The sex scenes are just boring.

What did I like? Well, the texting between characters was cute and fun.

Note: there is lots of sexual innuendo, “adult” language and sex in this book.  If you don’t like that, then you should pass on this one. Pass on it even if you do like that sort of thing.

Release Day Review-Knight of Love by Catherine LaRoche

Title: Knight of Love

Knight of Love

 Genre:  Historical Romance/Erotic

Author: Catherine LaRoche

Publisher: Pocket Star, June 9, 2014

Source: Free for review from the publisher

Rating: 3

Sexy Rating: 5++

Description from Amazon.com:

In this saucy romance, an English lady turns the damsel-in-distress tale on its head as she escapes her malicious fiancé and fights for both her life and that of the lustful rebel that has become her protector. Lady Lenora Trevelyan, a naïve yet stubborn young lady born to the highest noble houses of England and Germany, finds herself betrothed to the brutal Prince Kurt von Rotenburg-Gruselstadt. But after she is cruelly bruised and flogged by her fiancé, she decides to take the reins of her fate. In the midst of a German revolution, Lenora escapes Kurt’s iron fist and embarks home to England. She quickly finds herself in the hands of a rebel group and their robust, gentle, and handsome leader, Wolfram von Wolfsbach und Ravensworth, the English Earl of Ravensworth. Lenora struggles to deny the passion she feels towards the frustratingly chivalrous Earl but her desire for him continues to bloom. Wolfram hungers nothing other than to fight for democracy and civil rights in uniting Germany and to protect what he assumes is his damsel in distress. Through nights of immeasurable pleasure, Lenora and Wolfram learn that their passion is no match for the revolutionary chaos that ensues. And when Lenora discovers that her protector’s life is threatened, she must risk everything to save her Knight of Love.

**

Ms LaRoche has written a good story.  She can write action, and dialog equally well.  Her characterizations are spot-on.  Lenora is an admirable heroine, fighting for her life amidst the horrors of war and evil.  Wolfram is a slightly misguided hero, making some poor choices in the name of chivalry and love. The Prince is the personification of sadistic Evil.

In spite of my misgivings, I can recommend this book, but only to those who have no problem with a plot that is filled with graphic violence, sexual assault and marital rape.  This is not one of the throw-back novels to the 80’s where these themes were prevalent and routine, this is a new novel debuting in 2014.  Do I have a prejudice against this type of novel? Yes, I make no apologies, this is how I roll.  I sincerely hope that this is not indicative of the direction that Historical Romance is heading.

Review- Just One Night by Kyra Davis

Just One Night

 Genre:  Erotic Romantic Suspense

Author: Kyra Davis

Publisher: Gallery Books, December 2013

Source: Kindle Purchase, $1.99

Rating: 5

Sexy Rating: 5+

Description from Amazon.com:

In this New York Times bestselling erotic e-novella trilogy, a buttoned-up businesswoman takes her friend’s advice and has a fling with a stranger on a trip to Vegas—only to find herself under his mysterious, sexy power both in the boardroom and the bedroom. Kasie Fitzgerald knows who she’s supposed to be. She’s a rising-star-workaholic at a global consulting firm. She’s the fiancée of a well-connected man who’s won the approval of her parents. People know that she’s reliable, serious, proper, cautious, pragmatic, and yes, a little predictable. She’s who Dave and her family want her to be. But as her thirtieth birthday looms, buried feelings begin to resurrect. Her friend takes her to Vegas for one last wild and crazy night. In a dress much shorter and sexier than anything she has ever dared to wear before, she hits the blackjack tables. And meets him. Under the tailored clothes it’s clear that this is a man who is intense, powerful, and maybe even a little dangerous. With a touch of trepidation she accepts his invitation to get a drink, and before long, she’s in his hotel room. She never gets his full name. Perhaps his anonymity is one of the reasons she’s able to give herself over to him and to the moment so completely. Perhaps it’s why she’s just had the most exquisite and passionate sex of her life. Shaken by her own behavior, Kasie tries to chalk it up to one crazy night. But when the mysterious gentleman she’s just had a fling with shows up in her office—as the CEO of a firm her company does a billion dollars of business with a year, demanding that she handle his account, and so much more—things will never be the same again. And there’s no telling where this will go…

**

I was developing a supreme prejudice concerning erotic novels. The ones that I had read were often just okay in plotting, characterization and readability. But since the “fifty-shades” phenom I thought I should at least give them a go and hopefully discover something worthwhile. That finally happened with this book.

Just One Night is a Tour de Force, 496 pages of heart pounding erotica and suspense. Originally published as three serial novellas they are all combined in this one book and thank goodness for that since I would not want to wait for the next novella. I finished all 496 pages in two days, stopping only for food and bathroom breaks. I could not wait to get back to this book.

This is my first introduction to Kyra Davis’ outstanding word play. This book is filled with intense emotion as well as erotic sex. There is an ongoing struggle between perceived good and evil, right and wrong, love and the expression of self. There is suspense, and the continuing escalation of fear and the consequences of power run amuck.

There are a few too many fantasy dream scenes. These could have been cut back without hurting the novel.

Deet’s note: This is an erotic novel that has elements of mild BDSM, ménage, humiliation and betrayal.

Recent Release Review-The Private Affairs of Lady Jane Fielding by Viveka Portman

Title: The Private Affairs of Lady Jane Portman

The Private affairs of Lady Jane Fielding

 Genre:  Erotic Historical Romance (Novella)

Author: Viveka Portman

Publisher:  Harlequin, Austrailia, June 1, 2014

Source: Free for review from the publisher

Rating: 4

Sexy Rating: 5+

Description from Amazon.com:

In the world of Regency England, only one thing matters — the begetting of an heir…

There is one fact I cannot hide nor deny. I have borne my husband no sons…

When Lord Jacob Fielding suffers a traumatic injury denying him more children, it devastates both his present and his future. He and his wife Jane have only daughters, and the brother in line to inherit his title and lands is a disgusting reprobate, a man who should never have power over anyone.

In desperation, Lord Fielding formulates a wicked plan. He invites his distant cousin Matthew to come and share their home…and possibly more. Jane is shocked, but cannot deny her curiosity. She loves her husband, and their situation is desperate, and Matthew is a kind, gentle, attractive man. But what can this situation bring, but tension and jealousy?

Emotions and libidos run high as the Fielding men search for a way to satisfy the need for an heir, their own lusts, and, most importantly, the desires of Lady Jane, before time runs out.

**

Again Ms Portman gives us a sexy look at Regency mores. She has an uncanny way of lifting us from the 21st century and dropping us smack dab in 1813. Her dialog is spot-on believable for the era; the struggles that her characters have with moral issues is realistic and the sex scenes are scorching.

This is an erotic novella with a Ménage including Lady Jane, Lord Jacob and Matthew. There is also a rape scene. If these aspects trouble you then I may suggest that you pass this one by. However you will be missing some very fine writing if you do.

Review- Dare To Resist by Laura Kaye

Title:  Dare To resist

Dare to Resist

 Genre: Contemporary Romance Novella/Erotic

Author: Laura Kaye

Publisher: Entangled: Brazen, May 2014

Source: Purchase for Kindle $.99

Rating: 4

Sexy Rating: 5+

Description from Amazon.com:

Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks click on a level that defies logic. There are only two problems. One, he’s her older brother’s irritating best friend, and two, they’re bidding on the same military security services contract.

When the competition heats up, Colton is torn between wanting to strangle Kady (and her annoying brilliance) and kissing her into submission. Which is a bad idea for a million reasons, because Kady’s submission is exactly what he craves. Being trapped in a tiny motel room with the object of his darkest fantasies will require every ounce of his restraint.

Kady doesn’t want his restraint, but Colton knows better. She deserves love, marriage, and a white picket fence—three things Colton can’t give her. But her proximity and the memory of their steamy near-miss three years ago slowly destroys his resolve. And he’s not sure how much longer he can keep his hands off…or his heart closed.

**

If you are looking for HOT contemporary romance then look no further than Laura Kaye. All of her books are well written and sizzling with sensuous sex scenes. This novella which kicks off Entangled Publishings new Wedding Dare Series is even hotter than other novels by Ms Kaye. This is tagged by me as erotic because of the rough-sex that both hero and heroine enjoy. The character development is perfect and never suffers from this being a novella. Well written and an enjoyable quick read.

Review-Afterburn and Aftershock by Sylvia Day

Title: Afterburn and Aftershock (Cosmo Red-Hot Reads)

Afterburn and Aftershock

Genre: Erotic Contemporary Romance

Author: Sylvia Day

Publisher: Harlequin, March 2014 (Reprint)

Source: Free for review from The Amazon Vine Program

Rating: 4

Sexy Rating: 5

Description from Amazon.com:

Never mix business with pleasure. Never bring politics into the bedroom. In a way I did both when I took Jackson Rutledge as a lover. I can’t say I wasn’t warned. Two years later, he was back. Walking into a deal I’d worked hard to close. Under the tutelage of Lei Yeung, one of the sharpest businesswomen in New York, I had picked up a thing or two since Jax walked away. I wasn’t the girl he once knew, but he hadn’t changed. Unlike the last time we’d drifted into each other’s lives, I knew exactly what I was dealing with… and how addictive his touch could be. The inner circle of glamour, sex, and privilege was Jax’s playground–but this time, I knew the rules of the game. In the cutthroat business world, one adage rules all: keep your enemies close and your ex-lovers closer…

**

Gianna Rossi comes from a family of Restaurateurs; Jackson (Jax) Rutledge comes from a political dynasty. He loves her but finds it impossible to be upfront and honest with her. She loves him but can’t come to grips with his evasive answers. Together they have a sexual chemistry that is off the charts but is it enough for a lasting relationship?

Sylvia Day can write rings around most authors in this genre. She has a superb way of bringing her characters to life. The family dynamics of the Rossi’s is fun and believable. It makes us hope that we will see more of those hunky Rossi brothers. Gianna and Jax are so caught up in their lusting for each other that they can’t seem to find time to really get to know one another. Even by the end of the book we are still hoping for some meaningful dialog between the two, but they have decided to forge ahead anyway.

I recommend this page-turner. You may not especially like Jax but he is one hot, sexy rich guy. You may want to sit Gianna down for a heart-to-heart but she is going to do what she wants anyway. This is a good book to take you out of the everyday into the life of those in the fast lane.

Description from Amazon.com:

Maimed by misfortune… healed by love…
His wounds run deep…Having once lived his life only for larks, laughter, and ladies of easy virtue, Captain Simon Singleton has returned from war a shambles of a man. Although free from six years of captivity, he’s still fettered by fears that confine him to a life of seclusion.

Her scars are well-hidden…Once the crowning jewel of the most lavish brothel in London, the exotic Salime finds her reputation and livelihood destroyed by a bitter rival. With a closely guarded secret stripped away, she fears no man will ever desire her again. Seeking aid from one who once saved her life, Salime accepts a proposition to become a companion to his war-scarred friend.

But love is the eternal cure… When circumstance brings these two damaged souls together, fate ignites a love story worthy of the Arabian Nights.   (Mature content warning)

**

This is one sexy story so if you are shy about graphic scenes then you are forewarned.  Victoria Vane can write sensual love stories that absolutely combust off the page. This is a standalone novel although reading the others in the Devil DeVere Series will give you a broader background of the characters. I will not repeat the description here, it is well done by the author.

Salime is an accomplished courtesan and Simon is in need of her accomplishments.  Not only in the erotic arts but she is skillful in bringing about Simon’s will to live.  They fall madly in love but Salime realizes that she would be an albatross around the neck of a peer of the realm.  We turn pages quickly to find out how these impossible problems will be solved.

I enjoy Victoria Vanes writing, she is an accomplished story teller.  This book is testament to that fact.  At times, for me, the dialog was a bit melodramatic but it is understandable that she was portraying the depth of devotion that Simon had for the doubting Salime.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy a sensual historical romance.
