The Red is a standalone novel of erotic fantasy from Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling author of The Bourbon Thief and the Original Sinners series.

Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother’s art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it’s in the red. She soon realizes she has no choice but to sell it.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.

The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting…but surely her mother didn’t mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red…

This is labeled a “Fantasy” but Mona isn’t sure if her involvement with Malcolm is reality or fantasy. She will do what it takes to save her mother’s art gallery and if that means submitting to Malcolm then how hard could it be when he is devastatingly handsome.

There is constant suspense and mystery that is intertwined with all of the extremely erotic encounters of Mona and Malcolm. I initially thought Malcolm was real, then a fantasy, then real and I kept going back and forth wondering. That kept me turning pages to find out what was the outcome of this mystery.

I am a fan of Tiffany Reisz’ books ever since I read the wonderful THE HEADMASTER. She is a wonderful storyteller and there is no one better at writing erotic sex scenes. This is a romance even if not the usual vanilla type. If you are at all squeamish about BDSM, then you will want to skip this one. However the story is compelling enough so that you will like it anyway.

Holiday Erotica- All She Wants For XXX-Mas: An Erotic Christmas Story

All She Wants for XXXmas

Genre: Erotica

Author: Nathan Stratton

Publisher: Kindle digital

Rating: 3

Sexy Rating: 5

Christmasy feeling: 4

Description from amazon.com:

Christie’s fresh off a breakup, and seems to be in for a lonely Christmas. But her new boss, Michael, is handsome, charming — and a total flirt.

Is Michael for real? Or is he just looking for a holiday fling? Either way, Christie might be getting more than just a kiss under the mistletoe…

Steamy office romance, witty dialogue, and a juicy plot. What more could you ask for this holiday season?

Christie seems to be a bit like a teenager in her lusting after her boss but I do believe she is supposed to be twenty something.  Michael seems like a take charge type which he exhibits by following up weeks of flirting with a surprise visit to Christie in the ladies room.  After their work place encounter these two were an item. Since it was a volunteer organization I guess there was no worry about a sex harassment lawsuit.

In a short story such as this it is difficult to create the romantic sexual tension that is needed to make it totally satisfying.  Just telling us that she is lusting after him and he …well he just shows up in the ladies room.  In their subsequent encounters he seems rather violent but perhaps he just likes rough sex.  We are left to ponder this as it isn’t elaborated upon.

For me, this was just an okay read.  The sex was more graphic than romantic the way I like to read it. The heroine was a bit immature and a bit slutty and I wished she had owned up to both.  The hero was an enigma, I couldn’t quite decide where he was coming from.  I recommend this story to those who want to read some light erotica.  No chains and whips here.

Extra-Fifty Shades of Chicken video trailer

If you thought Monday’s video was funny then you will surely like this one.  Yes it is a cook book you can buy. So here is some chicken and skin.  YUM!  To further whet your appetite I’ve included an excerpt after the vid.

Oh, chicken, did you just cluck at me?”   Crap.    “No,” I squawk hoarsely.    “I believe you did. Yes, you did. You remember what I said I’d do to you if you clucked?”    Aw, jeez. “Yes.” I pause before I add, “Yes, Chef.”    “My word is my bond,” he crows. “I’m going to spank you. And then I will cook you, very hot and hard.”    I know what his hard cooking is like.    “I’m not sure I can take any more quite yet,” I whine.    “Stamina, Miss Hen,” he says brightly.    My inner goddess has donned a tiny cheerleader’s uniform and starts to chant.    Give me a B!    Whack.    Give me an L!    Whack.    Give me an A!    Whack.    Give me a D! E! S!    Whack whack whack.    What does that spell?    Control freak poultry-beater, that’s what it spells. But I don’t fancy another swat, so I manage to keep the thought to myself for once.    He roasts me gently until I reach sweet doneness.    “You are a most beautiful sight,” he says, pulling me out of the Wolf. “And your smell is intoxicating.”    Afterward, everywhere he spanked me is stinging and warm. The experience was humiliating and mustardy and unbelievably hot. I definitely don’t want him to do that to me again. But now that it’s over I have this warm, safe, golden brown afterglow. I feel contented, and totally confused.    I must remember to cluck at him more often.
Mustard Spanked Chicken roasted chicken with mustard, fresh basil, and garlic
Serves 4 1 (3½- to 4-pound) chicken, patted dry with paper towels 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt, more to taste ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard 2 teaspoons minced fresh basil 2 garlic cloves, minced 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1. Rub the chicken all over, including the cavity, with the salt and pepper.
2. In a small bowl, stir together the mustard, basil, and garlic and slap it hard onto the bird everywhere you just rubbed the salt and pepper. Refrigerate overnight or for at least 1 hour so it can recover.
3. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place a rack in a roasting pan.
4. Carefully lay the bird on the rack, breast down. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of the oil. Roast for 30 minutes. Thrust a wooden spoon into the chicken cavity and flip the bird over so the breasts are up; drizzle with remaining oil. Continue to roast until the bird is golden brown and quite done, about 30 to 40 minutes longer. Enjoy.

Review- Christmas Cash by Maggie Casper

Title:  Christmas Cash

Genre: Erotic novella

Author: Maggie Casper

Publisher: Elora’s Cave, 2009

Source: Kindle Free

Rating: 2

Sexy Rating: 5+

Description from amazon.com:

If you can’t beat him, irritate the hell out of him. Moving back home to Chaos, Texas wasn’t working out quite the way Noelle had planned. The last thing she expected was a seasonal job that included dressing up as Mrs. Claus while ringing a bell for charity, but thanks to Cash McCain, she wasn’t left much of a choice. Cash can’t believe what ten years can do for a woman. The last time he’d seen Noelle, she’d been all knees and elbows. Now a woman grown yet still ten years his junior, thus too young for him, Noelle has filled out in a way that should be illegal. When Cash refuses her a job at Raising Cain, a Texas honky-tonk run by the McCain siblings, she takes it upon herself to make his life miserable. Who could have imagined the damage a tiny, tinkling bell could cause to a man’s sanity? But when things heat up, Cash begins to think that raising a little cane with the likes of Noelle might not be such a bad thing after all.

Yes, there are some things I read that are just terrible.  I don’t often tell you about them preferring to give you recommendations of the good to great things I read.  But lest you think I’m a Pollyanna when it comes to books, I’ve decided to tell you about this stinker.

There is very little character development but lets face it how much can you get into 49 pages?  Obviously you can get in a lot of sex which seems rather second thought for the male protagonist.  He is more concerned with punishing the female Protagonist and when he becomes aroused…well might as well finish the encounter.  There is spanking in this novella as well as a boorish Cash and a slutty Noelle.  Noelle is so desperate to get sex from Cash that she will even risk it in the bar backroom where any one of his brothers can walk in and obviously they did view the event.   The only nod to the holiday is the fact that Noelle rings a bell for a charity on the street corner. I’m not likely to read this author again. Even for Free.  AND the cover is awful.

P.S.- I was going to save this review for the holidays but I don’t want to sully the season.

Review- P.S.: I’m Innocent by Steve Ruediger

Genre: Thriller/Erotic Elements

Rating: 2—2.5

Sexy Rating: 5

Description from amazon.com:

As a new employee for the Sanibel Island Environmental Conservancy in Florida, Lizzie Grant thinks she has it made. She is helping to preserve wildlife and working on a Florida beach. Life is finally good-but it won’t stay that way for long.

One night while researching sea turtles on the beach, Lizzie sees illegal aliens being brought ashore by a smuggler. Her accidental observation leads to her being threatened and stalked by the smuggler until he suddenly shows up dead in her apartment, and Lizzie is wanted for his murder. With the help of a semi-retired Mafia don named Joey, Lizzie tries to uncover evidence to clear her name. What she discovers is chilling: the illegal aliens are being used as slave labor on a farm next to her friend’s wildlife refuge. In spite of Joey’s help, Lizzie becomes a prisoner on the slave labor farm, where a forced marriage is planned.

Pursued by the police and men that want to kill her, Lizzie is running out of time. Will Lizzie find the strength and courage to fight her way free and prove her innocence?

First let me give some background as to why I agreed to review this book.  The author Mr Ruediger attended a Barnes and Noble presentation event in the audience where I was also a spectator.  The panel was 5 authors from a writing society of which Mr. Ruediger was a member.  Since it became known during the discussion that he was a self published author, following the meeting I stopped to talk to him.  He asked me to read and review his book, I accepted the offer, promising an honest review.

The author has a background as a newspaper reporter which led me to think this book would be more polished than it was.  The main character, Lizzie, was not likable.  She was silly and stupid. Continually making disastrous mistakes that made her look even more unintelligent.  Almost all the male characters were misogynistic.  The slave-farm portion of the book felt like it’s only reason for going on for several chapters was to either titillate or to act as filler.  There was no romance in this book.  There were plenty of scenes with men ogling naked Lizzie and rape scenes.  There was violence throughout most of the book.

I was disappointed hoping for better writing.  The character development was adequate but I’m afraid not to my taste; the characters were loathsome.  The plotting suffered from stagnation during a portion of the book that involved a slave farm, or perhaps it was just so unappealing to me that I felt it would not end.  I can’t recommend this book.

Review- Vampires In America: The Vignettes, Vol. 1 by D B Reynolds

Title: Vampires In America: The Vignettes, Vol. 1

Genre: Paranormal Romance Anthology

Author: DB Reynolds

Publisher: Create Space

Source: Free for Review

Available online: Kindle, $.99; Paperback $5.89

Rating: 5

Sexy Rating: 5, very explicit

Description from amazon.com:

From award-winning author D. B. Reynolds, nine stories of seduction and intrigue set in her Vampires in America universe. Note: this is a collection of short stories, not a complete novel. For the first time in print … The Vampire Vignettes From New Year’s Eve on the beaches of Malibu, to love in a penthouse over Manhattan, and a challenge fought on a snowy night in Montreal, Reynolds takes us behind the scenes with seven steamy Vignettes featuring her ultimate alpha Vampire Lords and their beautiful and independent mates. And Never Before Published – Two brand new, full-length short stories. You Belong To Me follows Duncan and his mate Emma as they consolidate power in his new territory, while generating plenty of heat in the bedroom. And then it’s time for The Wedding, as readers join Rajmund and Sarah for their big weekend … and Cyn’s girls-night-out bachelorette party. Unfortunately, some local kidnappers have other plans, and Cyn and Sarah will have to outwit their abductors before Raphael and Raj start hunting, and the entire wedding is ruined!

This is a delightful collection of nine, very sexy short stories featuring the vampires and their lovers from DB Reynolds’ wonderful Vampires In America Series.  This is my all time favorite series in the Paranormal/ Urban Fantasy Romance genre.

The short stories, vignettes, were first published on Ms. Reynolds’ website except for the last two in this volume.  It was her way to appease fans who were clamoring for more about these hunky vampires while waiting for her next book.  That said, you might think that these are just erotic tales if you haven’t read the series of novels.  For those of us who have read and reread the series, these stories help to flesh out the personalities of the romantic couples while giving us another glimpse into their lives.  With the two new stories we are treated, once again, to can’t-put-it-down writing by this accomplished author.

Reynolds’ Vampire Lords are Alpha males to the max, but become putty in the hands of their mates.  Their mates are no simpering shrinking violets but are strong self assured women who have found the love of their lives.  There is always lots of action and adventure in the series.  The vignettes have some action but are more centered on the personal interaction of vampire and mate.

This volume is a welcome addition to the series as we look forward to the next in the series LUCAS later this year.

Review- Hide and Seek:erotic tales of voyeurs and exhibitioists

I originally reviewed this book for the DSB blog which now is no longer being published.  I don’t read many erotic books, they are not to my liking.  But Rebecca asked for a review and I was pleased to find out that this one, full of short stories, was very well done.  I gave it a  4.5 rating and you haveta know it got a 5+ on the sexy scale.  Here is the review.

Title: Hide and Seek: erotic tales of voyeurs and exhibitionists

Edited by: Alison Tyler and Rachel Kramer Bussel

Twenty one short, playful stories about watching and being watched in the most intimate of moments.  My first thoughts were that I am not a voyeur or exhibitionist, although I still maintain that I don’t exhibit, I am hereby confessing to being a voyeur.  Not that I ever thought about it before getting hooked on Historical Romance novels.  In those HR novels it is all about watching the lords and ladies in their intricate dance of love and lust.

In HIDE AND SEEK we are treated to the short version of the dance in amazing modern settings, all different, this was a treat in itself.

In a taxi, In a dorm room, in a restroom, in a tent, in the park, In a pickup truck

Stare… what luck

At a club, at a peep show, at the opera, at home

Watch…you’re not alone

on a car, on a webcam, on a balcony, on New Year’s Eve, on the beach

peek…  hide and seek

The fun is enhanced by the quick short stories.  There is no time to whine about how we want to know the characters better.  We are taking quick peeks.  We are sneaking looks.  We are being just as naughty as the exhibitionists. .  Some of the exhibitionists are unaware but most have every suspicion that they are being watched.   Although there are voyeurs in the story, we the readers  are the voyeurs also.

Most of the stories are light and playful with only a few that are deeper in meaning than just your quick peek.  For this I am grateful because when we sneak a peek we really don’t want too much philosophy.  I really can’t figure out how this collection could be any better, maybe another  edition.  Kudos to the editors.
