An indomitable governess…a brooding Highlander…a forbidden affair…

An ill-fated elopement cost English-born governess Bernadette Holly her reputation, her unsuitable lover and any chance of a future match. She has nothing left to fear—not even the bitter, dangerously handsome Scot due to marry her young charge. Naïve wallflower Avaline is terrified to wed Rabbie Mackenzie, but if he sends her home, she will be ruined. Bernadette’s solution: convince Rabbie to get Avaline to cry off…while ignoring her own traitorous attraction to him.

A forced engagement to an Englishwoman is a hard pill for any Scot to swallow. It’s even worse when the fiancée in question is a delicate, foolish young miss—unlike her spirited, quick-witted governess. Sparring with Bernadette brings passion and light back to Rabbie’s life after the failed Jacobite uprising. His clan’s future depends upon his match to another, but how can any Highlander forsake a love that stirs his heart and soul?

For all highlander lovers this is a terrific story.  We have a naïve teenager, a worldly governess and a handsome highlander.  The makings of a really satisfying read.  Rabbie is still mourning his first love and is fighting a severe depression when he agrees to help his family and clan by marrying an English debutante who lives on the adjoining land. Avaline wants no part of the brooding, unlikable Rabbie but is being forced to marry.  Bernadette at first dislikes Rabbie but eventually understands his despondency and falls madly in love with him.  This is a triangle that seems totally without a happy outcome.  That the author, Julia “fantastic” London, pulls off a HEA is because of her superb storytelling skill.

I guarantee you will like this one and come back for more from this author. All books in the series are connected by cameos of previous characters but can definitely standalone. Read them all, you’ll thank me.

He’s the terror of the ton…

The plan is simple: 1. Descend from the Highlands to face the aggravation of a London Season; 2. Foist his wild sister off on some gullible English lord; 3. Retreat before the ladies of the scandalized ton can get any ideas.

Determined to see his hellion of a sister wed, Highlander Alexander Waters is willing to face anything-even the English. He just didn’t expect his own rough manners to cause such a riot…or for a blooming English rose to catch his eye.

Gently bred Catherine Middlebrook must find a respectable man to marry or her family will be ruined. She won’t allow herself to be distracted by Highland barbarians…no matter how her body may thrill whenever Alex is near.

Catherine wasn’t part of the plan, but as their battle of wills escalates, Alex comes to realize this “proper” English girl is as wild as the Highlands themselves…and nothing will stop him from having her.

Alex is a highlander whose only mission in London is to see his sister properly wed.  His sister Mary is a wild-child who has no desire to be wed but has found a good friend in Catherine.  Catherine is totally attracted to Alex, Alex is in lust with Catherine, but he’s not going to marry and she knows she must marry to save her family. Then there is Arthur, kind, considerate, generous, an aristocrat with money and wanting to marry Catherine.  This is a triangle that Alex is determined to break apart.

Christy English has written a well plotted and sometimes hilarious novel about the societal pressures of Regency England and what a lady and gentleman must do to just get along.  We know that Alex is the one true love of Catherine and she knows also, but she must do her duty for her family and be honorable.  That means she must marry Arthur.

I found this a most enjoyable light hearted romance with lots of steamy kisses and more.

Recent Release Review- Mad, Bad and Dangerous in Plaid by Suzanne Enoch

Mad Bad Dangerous in Plaid

Description from Amazon.com:

She used to be mad about him.

In Mad, Bad, and Dangerous in Plaid by New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Enoch, high-spirited Rowena MacLawry has come to the Highlands after a spectacularly successful debut Season in London, and has made it painfully clear that she’s outgrown her girlhood obsession with Lachlan MacTier. That’s just fine with him, as he never had any intention of marrying the lass anyway! Yet how can he ignore the fact that the once rough and tumble Winnie has become a very fashionable–and incredibly desirable–young woman…

And now he’s got it bad

Brawny, rugged Lachlan is nothing like the aristocratic English gentlemen who pursued Winnie–with a passion–in London. Three months away was more than enough to show her a world infinitely more glamorous than the untamed Scottish Highlands–and her beloved childhood crush. But now that she’s decided to find a prospective husband with a bit more polish, could Lachlan finally appreciate her?charms? And is it remotely possible to ignore the wild attraction she feels for him??

In this the third book in The Scandalous Highlanders Series we continue with the youngest sibling in the MacLawry family, Rowena, who has just turned eighteen and is ready to find a husband. For Rowena not just any husband, she has, all her life, set her sights on Lachlin MacTier. As for Lachlin, he has not been interested in the annoying little sister of his best friend, Munro MacLawry. When Rowena talks elder brother, Ranulf, into a Season in London, she decides to find a husband who is actually interested in her. Upon her return to the Highlands with English suitors in tow, she indicates to Lachlin that he is off her list of husband possibilities. Naturally Lachlin immediately starts to decide that perhaps he should take another look at Rowena as a woman not a girl, but it could be too late.

Suzanne Enoch has given us three lush books about this wonderful family. These siblings care deeply for one another. The characterization is beautifully drawn for each one. The plot is sexy, action and adventure filled and elegantly written. I loved this book. I love this series. I highly recommend both for all Historical Romance fans and Kilt lovers.
