Description from Amazon:

A madcap plan to avoid marriages they do not desire, leads two women to romance and passion they don’t expect in a duet of novellas by bestselling authors Jess Michaels and Elizabeth Essex.

A Lady’s Gift for Seduction by Jess Michaels
Lady Evangeline is a Diamond of the First Water, but she fears her father will match her to his own advantage, not hers. She decides marrying a biddable groom is the only way to salvage her future and chooses her old friend, astronomer Henry Killam. But she soon realizes Henry isn’t quite as manageable as she first believed and her feelings for him are stronger than she ever imagined.

A Lady’s Gift for Scandal by Elizabeth Essex
Miss Tamsin Lesley desires above all else to be a bluestocking and lead an intellectual life. The only thing standing in her way is her father’s heir, who wants her along with her father’s estate. To foil him, Tamsin enlists the services of masculine wallflower Simon Cathcart to ruin her. But the road to ruination leads to far more pleasurable places than Tamsin could ever imagine, and her charming wallflower proves to have secrets of his own.

**
A breath of fresh winter air, two delightful novellas that are truly worth reading and totally enjoyable. They are stories that are related to each other, with heroines who are friends. Tamsin wants Evangeline to help her find a man to ruin her so she won’t have to get married. But she only wants to be “a little ruined” . Simon is the man Evangeline picks out for her and that’s when the delight of Jess Michael’s novella starts. While Evangeline is picking out Tamsin’s object of ruination she is steering her away from Henry Killam because Evangeline has her own feelings for him. Elizabeth Essex brings these characters to life in her novella. I can highly recommend this book. Two 5 star gems.

Description from Amazon.com:

The newest historical romance series from USA Today Bestselling Romance Author Jess Michaels Widow Rosalinde Wilde is on her way to her beloved sister’s wedding when an unexpected storm waylays her at an overcrowded inn. There she meets a tempting stranger who sweeps her into a night of unforgettable passion. Grayson Danford never expected a night with the irresistible Mrs. Wilde, but she was a welcome distraction from the unpleasant duty of breaking up his brother’s impending nuptials. He’s shocked when he discovers his passionate lover is none other than the sister of his brother’s intended. Now Rosalinde and Gray will butt heads, even as their simmering desire for each other threatens to boil over. Who will win? And who might lose it all?

**

This is a good read.  Just the right length to tell the tale of Gray and Rosalinde and introduce us to Celia and the Earl of Stanfax. This is a lust-at-first-sight trope, which evolves into love.  Gray and Rosalinde cannot get enough of each other even though they both try to talk themselves out of the attraction.  There is Gray trying to break up his brother’s pending nuptials because he sees no attraction between Stanfax and Celia.  Rosalinde is trying to talk Gray out of his mission.  But wait then there is a twist, a surprise that might just turn everything on its ear.  Throw in an evil relative and you have some exciting happenings.

At the end of this book there is an introduction to the next book in the series with characters from this book.

***

P.S.- Once again we have a very good book with a really awful cover.  The book is so much better than this cover.

I would caption this cover:

her: Do you see it? Right there behind my left ear.

him: Yeah I think so. Hold still, no, no, don’t try and get it yourself.

Description from Amazon.com:

Criminal Jack Blackwood has plenty of problems, from his complicated relationship with his brother to the plethora of men coming to dethrone him as king of the underground. What he doesn’t need is a rich, bored gentleman showing up to try to join his gang. Worse, he doesn’t need that gentleman’s sister, Lady Letitia Seagate, chasing after him demanding he keep her brother safe. If only the lady weren’t so damned intriguing. Widowed Letty is desperate to protect her younger brother, even if it means matching wits with the notorious, charismatic Captain Jack. Only the man has far more to him than she ever expected, and his tempting kisses and smoldering promises leave her wanting more than she has ever dared before. Can Jack uncover the truth behind Letty’s darkest lies? And will they both survive the storm about to strike at the very heart of their passion? Length: Full-length novel Sensuality level: Hot and steamy This book can be read as a stand-alone novel, but is part of a series (The Wicked Woodleys).

**

Jack is handsome, a criminal king in London.  Letty is widowed who has secrets to keep and a brother to keep out of the grip of Jack.  But the attraction between them is too much to deny.

This is a quick read, containing some very sizzling passages.  It doesn’t take a deep concentration to figure out where this tale is going.  Letty was well drawn and we understand her concern for her brother but her stupid actions are really unforgivable.  Jack is proclaimed the head of a criminal empire but I wanted more of his corruption and activities. He seemed a bit too main-stream for such a wicked fellow.

This is a standalone novel with side characters from previous books in the series.

Description from Amazon.com:

Jude Samson has worked for the Woodley family for such a long time that he is seen as a brother. But he has very unbrotherly feelings toward the youngest of the clan, Lady Audrey. When they find themselves off at the family’s country estate, long simmering desires will come to the forefront and Jude won’t be able to stop himself from taking that one, oh-so-forbidden taste. After seeing what it has done to her family, Audrey is afraid of passion. But the moment Jude touches her, fear is washed away by intense and powerful lust. Only Jude has a secret that could destroy everything that is beginning to develop between them. And when it comes out, it will change everything.

**

I do like the way Jess Michaels writes.  Her Hero and Heroine are very realistic.  They have much to recommend them but they also have some serious flaws.  Jude’s flaw was to be too hard on himself.  For years he has carried around guilt that affects all his interactions with his best friends and employers the Woodley family. Audrey Woodley’s flaw is to be too impulsive wherein she imperils her own well being/life and that of those around her.  But all flaws aside these two characters have a lust filled, sizzling attraction to each other that they feel unable to deny. The attraction is not new, it has been simmering for seven years and only now boils over.

This is the first book in the Wicked Woodleys Series and Each of the three brother Woodleys are introduced, Edward first born, Evan, And Gabriel whose twin Claire has gone missing for three years since she ran off with a nefarious rogue. Audrey is the youngest Woodley and Jude Samson is the family business manager/steward.

I enjoyed this easy, steamy read and Highly recommend it to all Historical Romance readers.  I have already pre-ordered book #4 Ruined coming in April.  I also intend to read the others before that one comes out.  I just love it when I don’t have to wait for the next book in a series.

The Wicked Woodleys Series:

  1. Forbidden (Audrey’s story)
  2. Deceived (Evan’s Story)
  3. Tempted  (Gabriel’s story)
  4. Ruined (Claire’s story) coming March 8, 2016

Description from Amazon.com:

Crispin Flynn has been on a downward spiral ever since he lost the woman he loved and watched his brother forced into a life he never would have chosen. His response has been drinking and gambling his way to utter ruin. One night, deep in his cups, he places a dangerous bet that results in him being forced to marry Gemma, the widow of the Earl of Laurelcross. Gemma once had a passionate side, but has been hiding it ever since her much older husband died during the act of making love. Now she finds herself the much unwanted wife of one of the biggest libertines in London and the subject of even more gossip than ever. Once they determine they cannot escape the marriage, the two begin a slow circling of each other. Passion is easy, but can they overcome mistrust and secrets in order to make the worst night of their lives one of their best? Or are they bound to lose each other before their love can take root? Length: Full-length novel Sensuality level: Hot and steamy This book can be read as a stand-alone novel, but is part of a series (The Notorious Flynns).

**

This book has a delightful premise of a married couple falling in love. I’m not spoiling anything by telling you that they do fall in love, after all this is a romance novel. But there is a villain who would like to throw a monkey wrench into the romance just for his own edification. And our hero has a mystery surrounding that lost love and we turn pages to find out all the details. The heroine is forced into this marriage and she is, at first, in lust with her husband. Our hero is insistent that he will not fall in love with our heroine and we all know how that will end. Yes, a bit predictable but Ms. Michaels is such a good writer that although we know it is predictable we still want to turn every single page to reach that happy ending.

Description from Amazon.com:

For years Serafina McPhee has been engaged to marry the heir to the Duke of Hartholm and for almost as long, she has been struggling to find a way out of that engagement. When he suddenly dies, she does not mourn but thrills at the idea that she will be free. Unfortunately, best laid plans go awry when the next in line for the title, her intended’s cousin, Raphael “Rafe” Flynn is forced to take over the engagement. But Serafina knows Rafe’s reputation as a libertine and wants nothing to do with him, either, even if he is devastatingly handsome. She proposes an arrangement: she will agree to the marriage and provide Rafe with his heir and spare. Once she has done her duty, he will let her go. Rafe is intrigued both by her beauty and by her utter disgust with the idea of being his bride. Women normally fall at his feet, not cringe away from him. However, since their arranged marriage is not something he can escape, he agrees to her terms. But when he finds out on their wedding night the truth about her torture at the hands of his predecessor, he finds himself driven not just to fulfill his bargain with his new bride, but to introduce her to desire. While they move closer together, surrendering to wicked pleasures, dangerous emotions may violate every agreement they’ve made.

**

Did you read that description? Yes, this is a very sensuous and sexy book. It is also well written by and accomplished author. Rafe is perhaps too good to be true but we will certainly forgive him for that. Serafina is perhaps a bit too stubborn but then again we need that trait to balance out Rafe. Together they are tinder and match. We read and turn pages to find out what will change Sera’s mind about a life with Rafe.

This is a fun and easy read and the start of a series. Next will be Rafe’s sister Annabelle’s story. You really can’t go wrong with a Jess Michael’s book, especially if you like your historical romances very sexy.

Description from amazon.com:

An innocent lady’s education could be a gentleman’s wicked seduction.

Mistress Matchmaker, Book 1

Lysandra Keates is running out of options. Her father is dead, her mother is ill, and her efforts to find respectable employment have ended in failure. With her small savings bleeding away, she swallows her pride—and her terror—and turns to Vivien Manning, an infamous courtesan, to match her with a wealthy protector.

For years, Viscount Andrew Callis has lived a monastic existence at his country estate, hardening his body against the snobbish, lazy young man he once was, hardening his heart against grief over the deaths of his wife and infant son. When Vivien asks him to spend one month training a young woman in the ways of a mistress, his mind resists…but his body responds with an ache he thought long dead.

As Andrew begins his gentle tutelage, he finds himself falling under the spell of Lysandra’s innocent charms. And as they give in to the powerful hunger, the last thing Andrew ever expected, or wanted, forms between them. An emotional connection that could carry them well past the training period—if only Andrew can open his heart to the possibility of love.

Warning: Includes training in all kinds of sexual positions and delights, as well as an emotional romance. May produce swooning.

**

I left that warning label on the description because it gave me a giggle and it turned out to be oh, so true.  My reviews will tell you the sexy/sensuality rating on the books I review but this one was off my chart.  It is an erotic romance so of course there will be an abundance of sex.  That there was an emotional component was truly welcome.  The writing was well done and the characters were well developed with a desperate heroine and a damaged hero.  I love a book where I learn something new or my previous knowledge is enhanced.  A-Hem….this book is a training manual just like the warning implies.  If you like a scorching read then this book is going to wrap you in a sexy hug.  Prepare for the best. There…you are forewarned.
