Rafe Beaumont, fifth son of an earl, uses his irresistible charm with the ladies to glean dangerous war secrets. Now he’s putting those skills to the ultimate test: capturing an elusive assassin by seducing his daughter. The problem? She’s entirely immune to Rafe’s flattery.
Never before has Collette Fortier met a man as attractive as Rafe. But her father’s life is at stake, and succumbing to Rafe would be disastrous. But when Rafe turns the tables on her, offering support and friendship instead of a fleeting affair, Collette finds herself tempted in ways she never could have imagined…
The Survivors Series:
Third Son’s a Charm (Book 1)
No Earls Allowed (Book 2)
An Affair With a Spare (Book 3)

**
I am completely enjoying this series. The Survivors Club is a group of men who fought together during the Napoleonic Wars in a platoon(?) that was basically a suicide squad. Only 12 members survived and bonded like brothers on their return home to Regency England. Each member was especially skilled at a task. Rafe Beaumont was skilled at seduction and was a spy for the group.

When Rafe’s former commanding officer requests his help in ferreting out a French spy for the Foreign Office, Rafe accepts and is tasked with meeting and seducing Collette Fortier the daughter of a known French assassin. Collette is in England to seek out secret codes that will free her father from prison.

Shana Galen has added another swoon worthy hero to this wonderful series. Each book is a standalone but I encourage you to read this delightful, intelligent, humorous series. I would have liked more from the Survivor Club members in this book and I hope Ms. Galen will give us more as the series progresses. The Survivors are all so full of personality that I really missed more interaction.

Description from Amazon:

It is a truth universally acknowledged
that a lady can do anything a man can do:
backwards and in high-heeled dancing slippers.

Lady Juliana, daughter of the Earl of St. Maur, needs all the help she can get. She’s running a ramshackle orphanage, London’s worst slumlord has illicit designs on her, and her father has suddenly become determined to marry her off.
Enter Major Neil Wraxall, bastard son of the Marquess of Kensington, sent to assist Lady Juliana in any way he can. Lucky for her, he’s handy with repairs, knows how to keep her and the orphans safe, and is a natural leader of men.
Unfortunately for both of them, the scandal that ensues from their mutual attraction is going to lead them a merry dance…
The Survivors Series:
Third Son’s a Charm ,Book 1 (available for Kindle now $1.99) Ewan’s story
No Earls Allowed (Book 2)
An Affair With a Spare (Book 3) coming July 2018 Rafe’s story

**
Shana Galen does it again. There is action, adventure, heart stopping sexual tension and a hero to melt every reader’s heart. Juliana is stubborn and determined to save her orphans. Neil is intent on getting her out of the slums and back to her father’s home. As hours turn into days and weeks Neil is still not succeeding in his mission but he is falling for Juliana and quite possibly becoming attached to the children she cares for. We see in significant roles Ewan from the first book in the series and Rafe who is the hero of the third in the series.

I often say that books are page turners or can’t-put-downs but when I read this one five hours disappeared and the only reason I stopped for the night was because my eyes just wouldn’t stay open. I couldn’t wait to get back to this book. Ms. Galen gives us all the romance, suspense and action. Her villains are truly evil and her hero is truly heroic.

This is a standalone novel but I guarantee you will want to read the others in the series.

Description from Amazon:

Two morally compromised souls wage a battle of wits—and seduction—against the backdrop of the French Revolution in this thrilling romance from bestselling author Shana Galen.

After her late husband leaves her in debt to some dangerous people, Lady Gabrielle McCullough is forced to become a thief. In the intervening years, her skills have not gone unnoticed. After being recruited by the Scarlet Pimpernel, the mysterious do-gooder spiriting aristocrats out of revolutionary France, Gabrielle crosses the Channel for the most daring mission of her life. Accompanying her is the Earl of Sedgwick, a thief in his own right and an enticingly masculine presence. The man is not to be trusted—nor is Gabrielle’s body when he’s near.

Ramsey Barnes would not say he is an honorable man. His whole life has been based on a lie; why change now? Although it pains him to deceive the tantalizing Gabrielle, he’s working toward an altogether different objective: unmasking the Scarlet Pimpernel. If Ramsey fails, his blackmailer will ruin him. But when Ramsey’s confronted with the carnage of the Reign of Terror, he seeks refuge in Gabrielle’s heated embrace. Now he faces a terrible choice: betray the woman who’s stolen his heart—or risk losing everything.

**
Hang on for a wild ride. Set in the tumultuous Reign of Terror, Lady Gabrelle is pressed into service by the Scarlet Pimpernel to help save a titled woman and her child from the Guillotine. The Earl, Ramsey, needs to find out the identity of the Pimpernel to save himself from his nefarious blackmailer, and Lady G. seems like a good entry to the Pimpernel. But what starts out as two individuals working for themselves turns into romance.

I enjoyed this action packed adventure romance. There are sexy times and very violent times. I admit to being a bit squeamish about all the “heads rolling”. Shana Galen can put us in the middle of the action and give us heart pounding scenes that keep the pages turning.

Description from Amazon.com:

Once she spurned the man… When the Duke of Lennox hires Sir Brook Derring, England’s best investigator, to find his daughter, Brook intends only to rescue the lady and return to his solitary life. He deals with London’s roughest criminals every day of the week; surely he should be able to endure seeing his first love again-the perfect girl who broke his heart…

Now her life depends on him Lady Lillian-Anne Lennox has always done her best to live up to her father’s standards of perfection-at the cost of following her heart. When she’s kidnapped and her perfect life is shattered, Lila has another chance. Together, Lila and Brook navigate not only the dark and deadly side of London, but the chasm of pride and prejudice that divides them.

**

Brook had his heart broken and was humiliated by Lila (Lady Lillian-Anne) eight years prior.  But since he is known for finding the kidnapped and lost, and returning them to family, Lila’s aristocratic father asks for his help to find Lila even though he refused Brook’s petition to marry Lila those eight years ago. While kidnapped Lila views a crime and once she is recued she is still in danger.

This is a very good read.  It is full of wonderful character development, a grumpy hero and a not so demure heroine.  Shana Galan knows how to write breathtaking suspense and heart pounding action into a very romantic plot. This is my favorite of the Covent Garden Cubs series.  This is a standalone novel with cameos by some characters in previous books.

Free Historical Romance on Kindle- Earls Just Want to Have Fun by Shana Galen

Earls Just Want to Have Fun

I gave this book 4.5 stars when I reviewed it.  Now it’s yours for FREE. Enjoy!!!

Deet’s review:

We are introduced to the villain of this book, Satin, in Galen’s VISCOUNT OF VICE novella (reviewed by Deet on Jan. 30, 2015).  Marlowe is a cub, or thief, in his gang of young pickpockets. She has grown up with this monster after he abducted her in Hyde Park when she was five years old. Now Sir Brook has found her and is certain she is the missing Lady Elizabeth but her parents are away in Scotland. He takes her to his brother, Maxwell, Earl of Dane’s townhouse and soon leaves her to be taken care of by his brother. Nothing about this arrangement is satisfactory to fiery Marlowe, the handsome Earl, his demanding mother or the disgruntled butler.

This is a terrific story with a Pygmalion vibe. Marlowe is naïve and totally out of her element and Max feels he just doesn’t have time or desire to put up with her. Of course that all changes over the next few days as Samantha, the Earl’s sweet, kind sister, works her magic in making Marlowe presentable.

In this, Galen’s first full length novel in the Covent Garden Cubs series, we are treated to heated encounters and sizzling chemistry as well as action and adventure. There is humor and accomplished writing from a talented author. I highly recommend this book and this series promises to be an award winner.

Description from Amazon.com:

She’s beyond his reach… Gideon Harrow has spent his life in London’s dark underworld-and he wants out. A thief and a con, he plans one last heist to finally win his freedom. But when everything goes wrong, he finds himself at the tender mercies of one of Society’s most untouchable women-Lady Susanna Derring.

…and out of her depth. Susanna has spent her life in London’s glittering ton, under the thumb of a domineering mother-and she wants out. When a wickedly charming rogue lands at her feet, she jumps at the chance to experience life before it’s too late. But as she descends into London’s underworld, she finds that nothing- not even Gideon-is as it seems. As excitement turns to danger, Susanna must decide what price she’s willing to pay…for the love of a reformed thief.

**

Shana Galen can keep us riveted to her prose and swooning along with her heroine when she creates such a delicious bad boy like Gideon Harrow.  He is rough, course, self-educated, handsome and oh-so-dangerous.  Susanna is so naïve that she really has no idea what she is getting herself into. There is one mishap after another and some mishaps are so dangerous as to be life threatening. Who should come to their rescue time after time but a stray dog they named Beauty. In spite of all the trouble and danger these two star-crossed lovers defy the odds and survive and fall in love.

It is not always true to the era but this is a minor objection when everything else is so delightful. This is a standalone novel in the Covent Garden Cubs Series with cameos from characters in the first book EARLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN.

His heart may be the last thing she ever steals…

Marlowe is a pickpocket, a housebreaker-and a better actress than any professional on the stage. She runs with the Covent Garden Cubs, a gang of thieves living in the slums of London’s Seven Dials. It’s a fierce life, and Marlowe has a hard outer shell. But when she’s alone, she allows herself to think of a time before-a dimly remembered life when she was called Elizabeth.

Maxwell, Lord Dane, is intrigued when his brother, a hired investigator, ropes him into his investigation of the fiercely beautiful hellion. He teaches her to navigate the social morass of the ton, but Marlowe will not escape so easily. Instead, Dane is drawn into her dangerous world, where the student becomes the teacher and love is the greatest risk of all.

Lady Emma Talbot can’t stand watching the man she secretly loves destroy himself little by little. She’s determined to show him that no one holds him culpable, before it’s too late. But Emma doesn’t know what really happened to Flynn on that fateful day long ago, so what chance does she have of saving him from himself?

**

Emma and Flynn are starcrossed, wanna-be lovers. Emma has been in love with Flynn for several years and Flynn has been denying his attraction for as long. Now they are thrown together under difficult circumstances and they can no longer deny their feelings.
